It all started 20 years ago when I used to fly all over this awesome planet of ours shooting on surf and skate tours. It was my job to create photo essays documenting all of the experiences that orbited the core of the action for magazines and websites. As you can imagine, there was never a dull occasion and my adventures were filled with moments to take pictures of. I was practically glued to my camera and snapped away at the beautiful places we visited, exploring towns and cities in unfamiliar lands and capturing all of the little moments from life on the streets, the boredom in hotel rooms to the obligatory partying that unfolded at any opportunity.
The market is stocked to the gills with incredible wedding photographers who all shoot candidly and take beautiful portraits. As a wedding pap myself, it has always been my goal to change it all up and do things differently. There by Proxy is about switching that box-ticking, safe approach to wedding photography and filtering street photography techniques into weddings and the same principles honed throughout my career. This means shooting in a non-traditional ‘modern wedding photography’ way and approaching it all with a different point of view.
This website is also a platform to show off those un-related images from my travels whether it be on a surf trip or just wandering around the streets.
I hope you enjoy what you see.
